Our school

Runcorn Heights State School is a co-educational State Primary school catering for a diverse range of students. It is situated on 5.591 hectares in the suburban area of Runcorn. Suburbs in the area are Calamvale, Sunnybank Hills, Sunnybank, MacGregor, Eight Miles Plains, Stretton and Kuraby. The school was established in 1975 and has had steady growth since that time.

The community reflects a complex and diverse demographic with a majority of families having all adult family members in full or part time employment. There is a strong diversity within the community with approximately 30% of those living in the Runcorn area being born in countries other than Australia. Cultural sensitivity, tolerance and celebration of diversity are features of the school community.

The school’s enrolment is approximately 765. The Prep class caters for 100 children aged between 4.5 – 5.5. Children are generally grouped in single year level groupings with few multi-age class arrangements. The Special Education Program (SEP) opened in 2003. Our school also features ESL (English As A Second Language) classes, which cater for new arrival students with limited English skills.

School motto: Aim High

Our school motto is AIM HIGH. For students it means opportunities for demonstrating excellence within a supportive environment. It actively promotes the growth of self-discipline and self-reliance as the basis for stepping into adolescent and adult life as effective citizens who will be successful in life and living.

For parents it represents a solid backup to the family. Support they expect if their children were in the care of other prudent, caring parents who have high expectations of their charges.

For teachers it is an environment where professionalism is respected and practised. An open climate to suggestion, responsiveness to the need for curriculum change and the fostering of best practice. It also means support for personal and professional growth and development.

Runcorn Heights State School Community’s Purpose is to provide quality educational services to enable the development of all students intellectually, culturally, socially and physically in a supportive, caring environment.

We are committed to ensuring that:

  • the best interests of students are promoted
  • the best quality is achieved
  • personal accountability

School logo

Leaves drawn from the school ground represent our bushland environment.

Each leaf is different and this reflects the multi-cultural diversity of the school enrolment.

The hand is a young hand (primary school age). It is reaching up for guidance while it also strives for achievement – reaching out and touching.

Together, the hands and leaves form a tree – the tree of knowledge.
